Organize your laundry room with these space-saving tips!

Laundry is a never ending monster that will quickly spiral out of control and consume your whole house.  The best way to get a handle on laundry for your household is to develop a system and design your laundry room to facilitate your needs.

A re-design of your laundry room can be done in a really cost-effective way.  This is a great room for repurposing materials, DIY, and thrift store finds.

If you need to save on space in your laundry room, try stackable laundry machines.  They will use the space more efficiently and are smaller than traditional machines.

5. Fold-out Ironing Board

A full-size ironing board takes up space and is unattractive to store.  Try building your ironing board into a drawer, cabinet, or wall.  It will fold out when you need it and be out of sight when you don’t.

6. Hide Your Machines

If you’re tired of staring at your laundry machines, try a simple tension rod and some fabric to create a stylish curtain.  This will also add color and texture to your room.

  1. Those are really good examples of organized laundry rooms. I’m just curious, though. Where do you drain the water? I do like the fact that everything else – the ironing board and the storage – is just within reach.

    1. I asked myself the same question, but as an engineering student, I believe that it has an internat drain system in between the walls or probably behind the machines, you never know, that’s the best part.

  2. This is certainly one area of my home that needs a little more attention. It is kind of strange because having barely used to room, outside of laundry, there is really no need for it to be as messy as it gets, but oh well.

  3. I have a question about the stackable washer and dryer. Whenever I wash a large amount of clothes my washer likes to bounce and move around a bit… how would that work if it had a dryer on top? Would it cause any problems or would the weight keep the washer in place?

A very nice and detailed article. I use a lot of these things myself. I mainly love to use the walls as a storage option as much as possible. We have a lot of shelves and one of those racks that you can hang behind your doors and store various things into it. It’s really handy and it expands your storage by A LOT. You always have to be creative when it comes to organizing your rooms/space.

      1. Oh, I didn’t realize that they’ve made special products to tackle this issue. I know that many people have their washers bouncing around, haha. What is the product called though? I tried looking it up myself but didn’t have much luck…

So, would you advise me not to put the dryer on the washer if it tends to bounce a bit?

Thank you for the information 🙂

  4. I learned new ideas on how to organize our laundry room. Thanks! I like the idea of putting different bins to save time in laundry day and putting hangers or poles in the top of the washing machine for drying the clothes. Thank you. Ill wait fir more of your useful tips.

  5. I like the idea of putting hanging clothes bar above the laundry machine. It maximizes the small space available in the laundry room. It is a logical and practical tip. Thanks!
