Los Angeles rentals are getting pricey! This handy map shows the median rental rate for L.A. communities.
Los Angeles rental rates are at an all-time high. Only 6 cities in the nation are more expensive than L.A., and half of those are in California!
An online rental site, Zumper, mapped the median rent prices this summer in different areas of Los Angeles. Overall, the median price a one-bedroom unit is $1,970, and two bedrooms run about $2,900. Both one-bedroom and two-bedroom rental prices have gone up about 15% since this same time last year.
Santa Monica is the most expensive city in L.A., according to the data, with a monthly median of $3,000 for a one-bedroom unit. Venice and Westwood follow closely behind, and the west side in general is going to cost you.
You get the most bang for your buck closer to the city center with the Pico-Union district at $1,275 for a one-bedroom. MacArthur Park, UNNC, and the West Adams areas are rentable for under $1,350 a month.

Wow, I couldnt imagine paying almost $3,000 a month for rent, especially with it only having two bedrooms! Thats insane. Where I live, I live in a two bedroom duplex for $700, and its a small place!

I have been researching and looking online for a rental in L.A and I agree wholeheartedly with your article. Prices are steep, and the competition is tough.
I plan to keep looking though so thanks for this information. I might change my search areas and broaden my possibilities at a rental in a different area.
Seems like this is the trend everyone, maybe outside of a couple of place, around the entire country. That is how it is here at least, but 3,000 a month seems outrageous for someone like me. I know that things are relative but that really blew me away to read that.
3000 is a lot of money in my country if we’re talking about USD, for real. I could buy a car with that money and live in it, indeed.
I knew a guy that split a two bedroom apartment in Los Angeles for $4,000 a month ($2,000 each). It was advertised as a luxury apartment but it reminded me of a $1,500 apartments that I’ve seen in Miami. It is indeed all about location.
Wow that is so much money just to a month’s rent. I couldn’t imagine spending that much. I can buy a house lot here in my country with the month’s rent there in California. I umderstand that the prices are that high because of the location.
